Former Auburn DE Big Kat Bryant reuniting with Gus Malzahn at UCF

March 2 (UPI) — Former Auburn Tigers defensive end Big Kat Bryant announced Tuesday on social media he will transfer to the University of Central Florida and reunite with head football coach Gus Malzahn.

“Tbh I’m just ready to play ball,” Bryant wrote on Twitter. “I didn’t get to wreck college football like I wanted to last year due to injury. They say greatness takes patience and during this process I’ve just grew hungrier.”

Bryant, who was a second-team All-SEC selection last year, initially announced his intentions to transfer to Tennessee in January. Bryant, however, decided to transfer elsewhere after the Vols fired head coach Jeremy Pruitt.

Auburn fired Malzahn in December after his eight seasons at the helm. UCF hired him last month to succeed Josh Heupel, who replaced Pruitt as head coach at Tennessee.

Under Malzahn, Bryant played in 48 total games and was a two-year starter at Auburn. He recorded 53 total tackles, 10 sacks, two forced fumbles, one fumble recovery and two interceptions with the Tigers.

Bryant is the third former Auburn player to announce a transfer to UCF. He joins running back Mark-Antony Richards and receiver Nate Craig-Myers, who began his collegiate career at Auburn before spending the last two years at Colorado State.
