NFL Draft: Trevor Lawrence does soccer drill, lifts weights to rehab shoulder

March 2 (UPI) — Former Clemson quarterback Trevor Lawrence — the projected No. 1 overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft — continued his progress from shoulder surgery and has resumed weight training as part of his rehab.

John Aguero of EBA Sports documented Lawrence at one of the workout sessions Monday in Los Angeles. Lawrence underwent left shoulder surgery Feb. 16 in Los Angeles.

“Day by day,” Lawrence wrote Monday on an Instagram post, which included several photos from the session.

Lawrence performed a tricep exercise in one of the workouts. He also was stretched out by a physical therapist. The physical therapist had his hands on Lawrence’s left shoulder in two of the photos.

The physical therapist also posted a video of Lawrence as he used a soccer ball for another exercise. Lawrence used his left foot to kick the ball against a wall, as he wore a rotational sling on his upper body, when he performed that exercise.

The right-handed quarterback showed off his arm strength — despite the injury — when he held a personal pro day workout Feb. 15 on the Clemson campus in South Carolina. Sixteen NFL teams sent scouts, coaches or other staff members to the pro day to evaluate the former Tigers star.

Lawrence is expected to resume throwing exercises by mid-to-late March. The 2021 NFL Draft runs from April 29 to May 1. The Jacksonville Jaguars are expected to select Lawrence with the No. 1 overall pick.
