March 8 (UPI) — A North Carolina man said taking a wrong turn on his way to a job site and stopping for a “lucky biscuit” led him to a $ 250,000 lottery jackpot.
Kevin Vaughn of Mayodan told North Carolina Education Lottery officials he and a coworker were on their way to a job site when they took a wrong turn and ended up stopping at the Berry Patch Market and Grill in Lawsonville for breakfast.
Vaughn ordered a bacon and egg biscuit for breakfast and bought a pair of $ 5 20X The Cash scratch-off tickets, which earned him a $ 10 prize while waiting for his food.
The player said he used his $ 10 to buy two more of the tickets on his way out of the business, and while eating his biscuit in the truck he scratched off a $ 250,000 prize.
“It tasted pretty good,” Vaughn said of his breakfast. “It tasted a whole lot better when I was holding that ticket in my hand. A lucky biscuit.”
Vaughn said his winnings will allow him to pay off his bills and find a larger home for his family.
“It’s a big deal, because we have a lot of things we need to do,” he said. “It’s a blessing.”
